| Review: | No service for 6 months but still charging me I talked to their custumer service and was promised it would be fixed, they never did, three months later, tired of waiting and seeing my checking acccount being assaulted month after month, I called and cancel, finally. The service was horrible. Couldnt retreive my messages, Internet vista didn't support their sound format. Calls would cut at the first rings, couldnt get thru, then finally, didn't get the phone to ring when some one called me. This company is a disaster. and just like I told their customer service; "Not worth crap!" Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Service quality deteriorating The Mac OSX browser does not interact with the VOIP site. So, you cannot initiate service, payment or otherwise with a Mac computer. You must phone the customer service line if you have a Mac. That is a small inconvenience but it's one mark off the score for customer service. You can still use Joip without having a computer because JOIP is a standalone system. If you call the customer service line you might get Chris N. Chris N's reputation precedes him. He puts 100% into your experience giving you what you ask for. He's just a well rounded nice guy. Still, I haven't talked with anyone else in customer service and JOIP's customer service hours do not include weekends as I understand. As far as rates go, I want to say this in favour of JOIP's rates. I've been noticing another VOIP provider's ads on TV. Lately, they've been playing catch up with JOIP. They're now apparently offering the same low monthly rate as JOIP on unlimited monthly worldwide calling. I didn't see any adds though saying this particular VOIP service provider would compete with JOIP on their low $0.02 per minute calling to the U.S. and U.K. That is all that I pay anytime of day. For somebody that doesn't use more than 800 or 900 minutes on long distance calls in a month that is a good deal. It beats Bell. Now, lately though, the service quality has been deteriorating. My calls haven't been dropped but the sound has. While I've been digitally connected to another phone the sound has been dropping off and I don't know why. With Bell telephone throttling the internet speeds to second party ISPs I wouldn't be at all surprised if Bell and their practices were not at the route of the problem. I would like to know if the customers of other VOIP service providers were not beginning to experience the same problems. As far as features and options go, I want to give JOIP a high score because I just don't see how you can get more from a VOIP provider for the price of JOIP. However, if I wanted a 'plan' from JOIP and they were to supply me with a phone number I would want to be able to have a number connected to an area code in the country where I live which is Canada. | Review: | very exciting experience with VOIP VOIP seems to be complicated but this JOIP (panasonic) phone is very easy for use. You can setup different area No. for receiving phone call free. The voice quality is good, no noise, as good as local phone. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | A chicken with its head cut off I offered this response to Mel but recon I should offer it up to all. I would highly recommend Joip based on the quality and value of their phone services however I can't recommend them for other reasons. The show stopper is in their management practices. You can invest in the hardware which works very well however I don't think Joip will be in business long enough that you'll see a return on investment. First off their support: Forget Email, they never respond. Call Chris at their phone support. Chris is a good guy. I've talked to him probably a dozen times now. We know each others' voices. I think he's the only person working the support lines for Joip. I've never talked to anyone else. If anyone out there needs to get in touch with Joip (Chris), call their 888 line through your landline. If you use the Joip number they give you and call via the internet, the minutes are decremented from your account. In other words they don't use their own joip-to-joip themselves. Also, when you get the automated phone response, don't bother entering your phone number as that will go nowhere, just hit zero. Follow your way through their mercifully short list of options and that should get you to Chris. If you fail to get through to Chris and instead hear music, hang up and try again. You're not in a queue and it will hang up on you eventually anyway. Chris is in India I believe but perhaps it's the Phillipines, so when (not if) the line drops, call him back right away. Don't expect him to call you back - I don't think he has a Joip phone himself. Chris is polite and helpful so be nice to him. The Joip infrastructure is as screwed up as I can imagine. I'm surprised they are in business at all, especially when you read of my problem with them. That been said, their actual phone service has been first class in my opinion. I sent a phone to family overseas in the Caribbean where internet quality is often weak but these phones calling joip-to-joip have worked far better than I expected. I doubt Skype is any better. My problem with Joip is simply paying them. I try to add money to my account through paypal and it never goes through. They clearly have issues with their website - it's decidedly brittle. The damn thing just doesn't work right. I try to add $25 to my account and get errors. I call Paypal and they show some subscription schedule that won't be processed for a month. I don't have a credit card and this is why I need to pay with Paypal. It is also one of Joip's selling points. It's an interesting dynamic. If Joip fails, I can't help but believe that it's because they failed to go the extra inch to collect revenue that I suspect they badly need. It's also interesting how Panasonic postures itself in all this. Their name is all over the hardware and literature but the printed materials are notably filled with disclaimers related to Joip. Now bear in mind that Joip has an exclusive agreement with Panasonic so the phones themselves don't work with anything but Joip. I wrote and phoned Panasonic and they danced around my issues - basically saying nothing other than they stand behind their products... what that's supposed to mean in this context, I leave to you to guess. Should Joip go out of business what will Panasonic do? I rather hope they offer a firmware upgrade to make the phones work with Skype but who knows. The good thing is that the Joip phones are rather inexpensive so if you do gamble with them, you don't stand to lose your shirt. Comments [ 1 ] |

| Review: | Great when it is working The hybrid globarange phone concept is fantastic. JOIP's initial customer service for setup assistance was great. It went downhill quickly from there after I upgraded my phone 4 months into using the service. For almost 6 months I was unable to use my globarange phone to either receive or make outgoing calls on the 'new' IP phone number I had printed on ALL my business cards and company stationery. As with other reviewers I had an extremely difficult time getting through to customer service department let alone talk to a representative! Many times waited on phone for an hour plus for someone to answer - I can only count 2 out of truthfully 'dozens' of calls when someone did answer. The usual response was that technical services would call me within 48 hours. They never did - not any of the 10 plus times they were supposed to call. My agony was put to rest when JOIP's customer service rep Chris N. picked up the line this past week. Out of a 1-10 rating I would have to rate this fellow's customer service skills at a 15 (compared to all the other yahoos who should be replaced). He kept me on the line until he figured out what the problem was, explained it to me, told me what he was going to do, and actually did it. My phone and IP line work great now. To give credit where credit was due I emailed the rep's supervisor, talked to the supervisor by phone. I also snail-mailed a letter to the CEO of Aegis, check www.aegis.com, the company that runs the contact centre in India, to praise Chris N. and complain about the service in general. Bottom Line - It's great when it's working but it may well be challenging getting to that point. Comments [ 1 ] |
